I've been a JCG member for nearly 20 years and the president of the board of directors for 15 years. I would like to continue to be a board member next year and help to keep improving the Garden.

For the past 10 years, I have enjoyed gardening at our Community Garden and have been the Activities Coordinator the past 4 years.  The position is mainly organizing events and people to help them complete their service hour requirements. In a nutshell, I am invested in helping Garden members and the garden thrive. Thanks for considering me for the upcoming term on the Board.

I was in an advisory position for the 5 years and joined as a board member last year. I have been a garden member since 2014.  I really enjoy working in the charity plots and on the compost project and hope to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.  Thank you for your consideration.

I have served as the secretary of the JCGA Board for the past 12 years and am willing to continue in this role. The community garden contributes so much to those of us who garden there and to the wider Juneau community as well. I believe that it is an important Juneau organization and I am happy to help it grow. Thank you for considering voting for me.

I have been a member of the Juneau Community Garden for at least 25 years and have served in several positions on the board, currently as Treasurer.  I think the garden is both a valuable opportunity for individuals and a valuable resource for the Juneau gardening community.   I am happy to continue to work to keep the garden growing and evolving and would appreciate being retained on the board.

My passions are gardening and food security. I have been a member of the garden for 20 years and on the board for several. I currently serve as vice president. The garden is a valuable community resource and I want to see it continue to grow and provide food for community members.

I have been a JCG member for over 30 years.  First as part of the UAS Children’s Center  (D18) and then part of Tlingit and Haida Head Start.  While at Head Start I was the Health and Nutrition coordinator for over 250 preschool children in Southeast Alaska.  In about 2010-2011, I took the UAF Extension course on Master Gardening. I also attended the UAF in 2012-2013 to receive a Nutrition Certificate on Traditional and Subsistence foods. Around 2014,  I left Head Start and took over Sue and Art Arnold’s plots (D13 and D14) and brought on Cynthia Krehbiel as my garden partner.

I have always felt that I have played a big part in the Community Garden as a member.  In the past, I have spent service work hours doing: garden orientations, organizing children’s events, gate closures, assisting with charity plots and overseeing the membership table, helping with the rhubarb festival and the harvest fairs.

As I am newly retired, I would like to spend more time serving the community in one of the places I love best. I look forward to continuing to bring my children and grandchildren out to the community garden and showing them where our food comes from and meeting with our garden neighbors.

Thank you for your consideration..

I've been gardening at the JCG since 2020. Coming from an administrative background, I quickly realized that a phenomenal amount of work goes on behind the scenes to make this garden possible. After retiring from UAS in 2023, I was encouraged to join the Board and assist with those practical and administrative tasks. I've served on the Board for three years, and I would like to continue serving in the year ahead.

I value: growing and preparing food; sharing our knowledge; helping to feed our community; and being good stewards of our resources. Further. I believe that gardening is a healing practice for the gardener, and for those who enjoy the nourishment and pleasure of the produce. Children learning first-hand how to grow and gather food, herbs, and flowers is both practically useful, and emotionally joyful. These opportunities enrich our community, and sustain values cherished by our ancestors . My hope is that this garden will be supported to continue evolving and serving Juneau's residents for many years to come.

Hello everyone. I am very interested in a place on the JCG Board of Directors.

I see more families with young children joining the JCG and working on their garden plots. Consequently I am motivated to address potential safety hazards that I see in the Garden.
This includes exposed rebar, rocks in pathways that are covered with overgrowth, and nails that jut out of lumber in decrepit garden beds.
I would like to continue to renovate the kids’ play area and playhouse. So far I have spread gravel in an attempt to level the play area.
Thank you to those who constructed a “shed” around the  hole outside of the wheelbarrow shed. Huge relief on my part.
I am pretty sure that with a little elbow grease we will be able to assure families  that their kids can range safely in the Juneau Community Garden.
