JCG Board

This is a listing of the current JCG board. Elections for new officers will take place at the fall membership meeting.

Fellow Gardeners-My name is Doreen Prieto and I would like to join the JCG Board.
In March 2020 I received Plot D-6. If that time frame doesn’t sound familiar, it was when Juneau pretty much went into lock down because of the Covid Pandemic. The good news is that I spent most of those days working on my new plot. I was socially distanced, outside in a beautiful place with a pond to explore. I have seen beaver and river otter, brown bears, Sitka deer and porkies, not to mention so many different species of birds and butterflies and dragonflies.
Then I added Plot C11 which continues as a work in progress.
I would like to bring some ideas to the JCG. One is to rehab the Children’s play area so that it is more child friendly and to eliminate some of the safety hazards around that area. I am taking inspiration from the Fairy Garden that “magically” appeared recently. Thank you, Cynthia et al!
And how about reclaiming some of that valuable “real estate” behind the Compost Shed and planting raspberries that we can all enjoy as members of the JCG?
For those who know me, you know I am a hard worker and I am devoted to this little slice of paradise in the Tongass.  For those who don’t just stop and say Hi!
Cheers all. Doreen

I’ve been a JCG member for nearly 20 years and the president of the board of directors for 15 years. I would like to continue to be a board member next year and help to keep improving the Garden.

For the past 10 years, I have enjoyed gardening at our Community Garden and have been the Activities Coordinator the past 4 years.  The position is mainly organizing events and people to help them complete their service hour requirements. In a nutshell, I am invested in helping Garden members and the garden thrive. Thanks for considering me for the upcoming term on the Board.

I was in an advisory position for the 5 years and joined as a board member last year. I have been a garden member since 2014.  I really enjoy working in the charity plots and on the compost project and hope to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.  Thank you for your consideration.

I have served as the secretary of the JCGA Board for the past 10 years and am willing to continue in this role. The community garden contributes so much to those of us who garden there and to the wider Juneau community as well. I believe that it is an important Juneau organization and I am happy to help it grow. Thank you for considering voting for me.

I have been a member of the Juneau Community Garden for at least 25 years and have served in several positions on the board, currently as Treasurer.  I think the garden is both a valuable opportunity for individuals and a valuable resource for the Juneau gardening community.   I am happy to continue to work to keep the garden growing and evolving and would appreciate being retained on the board.

My passions are gardening and food security. I have been a member of the garden for 20 years and on the board for several. I currently serve as vice president. The garden is a valuable community resource and I want to see it continue to grow and provide food for community members.

I have served on the Juneau Community Garden Board for the past year and would be interested in continuing for another year.  I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to develop and organize activities with board members and then to work with garden members to complete them.

I’ve been gardening at the JCG since 2020. It didn’t take long to notice that there is a lot of work involved in creating this opportunity for our community. Many of the Board members have been quietly doing this work for years. As a recent retiree, I feel it’s important for me to step up and assist with things that I value. Assisting with the practical and administrative tasks necessary to keeping our Community Garden viable and relevant feels like a constructive way to contribute. I’ve served on the Board for two years, and I would like to continue serving in the year ahead. Thank you for your consideration.
